The Fall 2026 issue of ACLU Magazine covers our landmark victory for birthright citizenship and progress for voting rights in advance of the midterm elections. It also highlights the stories of activists, clients, and attorneys on the frontlines of the fight for immigrants’ rights in Louisiana, Minnesota, and beyond. Among the many voices spotlighted in this issue include Twin Cities protesters who confronted ICE’s brutal takeover of their community and an ACLU of Virginia client whose voting rights case helped dismantle a relic of Jim Crow. Also featured are a Detroit-based disability rights activist and a veteran and LGBTQ advocate in Kansas who protested the Trump administration’s politicization of the military and mistreatment of transgender service members. The magazine concludes by honoring the 65th anniversary of the ratification of the 23rd amendment—granting DC residents the right to vote in presidential elections—and the ACLU of DC’s founding.
